116/366 The statue wasn’t actually looking out over the modern city of Athens per se, but rather the grounds of the Ancient Agora. Most of the ruins are hidden by trees from this viewpoint these days, with just the Temple of Hephaestus and a column or two visible. I really like that the trees have been left to grow throughout the site, one could hardly believe this was the middle of Athens! Though the Agora surely would have been an even more amazing sight in the glory days of old.
