Heard it on the grapevine

132/366 You may have already noticed, but I have been experimenting a lot with shallow depth of field. This has been mostly inspired by the work of Thorsten von Overgaard, but I also find it good practice to test out newly acquired lenses wide open, to discover their ‘look’. These grapevines were the perfect subject for me to photograph with my newly acquired 50 Summilux ASPH back in December. The way that the one vine stands out from the rest is due to the difference in sharpness and contrast to its out of focus brethren. I really enjoy employing selective focus in my images and the way it adds a three dimensionality to the scenes photographed. How about you? Is it something you like to use often?
