170/366 With Locarno as our home base, we were able to access the surrounding valleys very comfortably with public transport. For the first day of hiking we selected a route in Valle Maggia, one which didn’t appear too strenuous for the first hike of the year. Despite the Summer-like weather at the end of February, snow was still clinging to the ground on top of the mountains and in nooks and crannies in the valleys. This made the hike a little more difficult than expected, but also presented wonderful vistas, such as this one.
