280/366 In order to find the correct exposure settings for the first roll of film I used a digital camera and found the point at which the highlights weren’t quite clipped – or expose to the right as it’s generally called. For film with any kind of reasonable exposure latitude this would have been a good idea, as film can (generally) handle more light than a digital camera can. This isn’t a great idea for slide film, nor Fantome as I found out, unless you like unrecoverable highlights. Some of that response is due to the lens I was using, which is extreme to say the least in terms of glow, but I’ll talk more about that in a future post.
Even though it sounds like I have been completely panning the film in the last two posts, I actually really like some of the results that I managed to get from it. In this image, for example, I think the graphic abstraction of the trees works quite well – they appear to be almost burned into your iris.
