292/366 Bringing to an end the current series on the new Lomography film Fantome is a subject that I have been meaning to photograph for a while, but never found the muse for it. This piece of disused machinery has been placed inside the park for show and attracts the occasional visitor. My main interest in it is the way that the light plays off it in the early and late hours of the day. With Fantome, the sunlit patches really glow and help the machinery stand out from the background.
So coming to the end of the series, what are my thoughts on Fantome? Well that remains a difficult question, though for me it is definitely a specialty or ‘trick’ film going forward. Sometimes the ‘trick’ works and other times the images fall flat on their faces. Mostly I am still somewhat uncertain how I should meter for the film and achieve consistent results. I’ve already shot a third roll with a lens of less extreme rendering to try to unlock that puzzle, but I’ll leave those results for later. I’ve got a hankering to post some colour images after all of this black and white.
