Use your illusion

340/366 An idea I had in mind for a while, I finally got around to the execution in early Autumn. The plan was to photograph an interesting tree from a number of angles and overlay the images on top of each other to create a different, but still dreamy result. I ended up using a whole roll of 120 film on the project, going back and forth, finding new angles and trying to keep the framing more or less the same. Five of the images were suitable for blending and I overlaid them in Photoshop. The result is relatively pleasing, but not quite what I was hoping for… no worries, I’ll give it another shot this Winter, perhaps with multiple exposures in camera.

  1. I actually find this a lot easier in-camera. Sure, there’s always the risk to completely spoil it, but if I don’t, I tend to find the results more natural somehow, even if this doesn’t make sense 🙂

Maybe it’s just that with Photoshop you’re more looking for perfection, and it’s easier to accept imperfections when you can’t change them anyway?

    1. Yes, it’s quite possible that in Photoshop I don’t really know what I am after or how to get there.
It’s a really good idea with the multiple exposures, I’ll definitely give that a try next time. The bonus is I will go through less film!
